Review: The Protector

The Protector (Families of Honor, #2)The Protector by Shelley Shepard Gray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just love this series by Shelley Shephard Gray! This time our main story is Ella, who is selling her families' home and moving into town. An only child, with both parents gone, Ella decides to rent half of a duplex from her good friend Dorothy and take the job at the library. Ella has always felt like an outsider, not good enough for anyone.

We also get a few chapters from my favorite little spirited girl, Katie. Katie is my kind of girl, her love of reading really excites me as well! Mattie and Graham are in a bit, we build a foundation for the next book a bit in this one.

Loyal bought Ella's family farm and a lot of the possessions too. Loyal has never even acknowledged Ella, but suddenly he sees her in a new light. When he starts spending more and more time with her, Loyal finds out that maybe opposites attract or do they? You will have to read and find out their love story.

Oh yes, another good little love story brewing is the love triangle between the librarian, John and Mary the amish woman with the son! That is a really good one. I mean John left the order and went and lived with the English, but came back to be near family. So what is he really?

Shelley always delights and Hebrews 11:1 -- Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see -- one we should all keep in our hearts and minds...keep it in your mind when you read...

Review: The Buddha in the Attic

The Buddha in the AtticThe Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hard to get the hang of it in the beginning, but even harder to put down in the end!

This historical fiction story of sorts, is a beautiful synopsis of Japanese Americans - what they went through coming to America, all thing they were promised only to find out they were lies and be stuck. Yet they stuck it out, worked for pennies, had children. I ended up loving how it was written, just a huge mix of so many different people.

How can you not love this tiny book packed with a punch? Makes you really think. Makes me want to research this subject more.

Aren't we all in essence migrators?

Beautifully written book, Julie Otsuka is a master of a beautiful heritage.

Review: The Resolution for Women

The Resolution for WomenThe Resolution for Women by Priscilla Shirer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A book to read, a book to reread and a book to recommend. Run out and get this book as soon as you can! Without a doubt, a book that will forever change your heart and mind.

What would be even more awesome is if a ladies church group read it together and kept each other accountable! What a blessing they would be to themselves, their families and their churches. Which would reach others no doubt!

I would like to journal everything I read here, but it would be better if you read the book yourself! Shirer has 13 resolutions -- some might be sensible, some might be not even what season you are in, and some are downright painful! All come to one point, we are made in His image.

So no matter what season you are in, I KNOW this book will encourage you, direct you, bless you --- so be a blessing to others. Read it, recommend it, study it! Blessings to you!

I've Got Your Number

I've Got Your NumberI've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book had me from the first page. No wait, I take that back! It had me from the first sentence! Poppy is now one of my favorite characters. Silly, entertaining, just down right friendly and engaging!

What happens when you lose the emerald family engagement ring your fiance gives you, then someone nabs your cell phone, then you see one in a trash bin, grab that, which happens to be a business cell phone and hijack it?

Read this new book from bestseller Sophie Kinsella and you will find out! Sophie has given us readers such a character you can identify with, cheer along and enjoy a good laugh.

Poppy will delight you when she is caught during awkward moments, when her heart breaks, when she feels inferior to Magnus's family -- basically Poppy latches onto you and is destined to be my friend forever!

Do you think Poppy will ever be able to relinquish the cell phone? Just like many of us today, we would feel stripped without it. Make sure you read this wonderful adventure and root for Poppy!

Grace Based Parenting

Grace-Based ParentingGrace-Based Parenting by Tim Kimmel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Powerful, make sure you take notes!

I did, too many things to list --

We all need grace, without grace we will not become what God wants us to be. Do we deserve it? No. But we need to show it each and every day to our children, because He shows us grace.

Dr Kimmel really expands on grace, a whole lot more, but you will to read it, recommend it, read it again.. pass it on..

My favorite from the book is: "Grace is the best advertisement for a personal relationship with the living God."

Read it you don't want to miss out!

The Christmas Wedding

Sigh... ho hum...

I was looking forward to a good book. What started out as great, I mean who doesn't love a little mystery. Who will Gaby remarry? All three sound devine...

But when the story climaxed, I was left feeling, this is it? This is all you have for me? Boo, hiss!

Some parts just seemed out of joint for me. Literally, in one sense. I really don't see what the joints had to do with the story at all.

On the other hand, I thought Gaby was a delightful character, full of life and I love the idea of the videos --

Read for yourself though, if you are a fan of JP, maybe you will enjoy it!

Face-to-Face with Lois and Eunice

Face-to-Face with Lois and Eunice: Nurturing Faith in Your Family (New Hope Bible Studies for Women)Face-to-Face with Lois and Eunice: Nurturing Faith in Your Family by Janet Thompson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent "workbook" to read and be the leader/mentor God wants us to be. Just like Paul encouraged Timothy and Lois encouraged Eunice, we can encourage others. You ask how, read this fantastic "guide" if you will and you will feel God calling you in so many places you will be so blessed.

Do this by yourself at first, and then be the mentor you and I were called to be and use the wonderful group guide at the back. And stand back and watch God move ---

So many wonderful inspirational statements here, I didn't want to list them. What might have caught my eye might not catch your's. Just take the leap and don't look back. God is calling all of us, yes even YOU.
